Sea Fishing in Goa
Sea fishing is a sport, very rare until recent years and yet to catch on in Goa. It has some very uncommon features among all the adventure water sports. You may wait for hours just to have a catch and even then you may or may not get the catch. Sea Fishing involves going far out in a motor boat and to expect some catch including kingfish, tuna and jack fish. Operators take the groups to bait and Butterfly Islands, much closer to shore, for fishing.
Sports fishing or recreational fishing is still a famous water sport throughout the world. Keeping in mind the popularity of sports enthusiasts, a set of regulations came into existence. There are specific guidelines for the fishing season in which a certain species can be caught, the permission for minimum catch per day and the choice of fishing sites.
It offers an opportunity for the fishing freaks to find out the unexplored territories from vast expanse of the sea housing countless treasures. Fishing also spurs us to challenge our daring and prove our worth. All of us love to transcend our limits. Agonda Beach is the most popular place to enjoy sea fishing as it offers a large variety of Soormai, salmon and mullet.
All you will need a barbed metal hook at the end of nylon or Dacron line, a wood, fiberglass or metal rod or pole. Heavier rods and reels of the bait-casting type are used in salt-water fishing. Usual methods are however trolling and casting from the surf.
When to go for fishing
Fishing tours to Goa are a great delight as it offers the tourist a sense of immense pleasure in doing this local activity with the fishermen. The most suitable time for fishing is before and just on the top of the high tide. The bait used for the fishes is the sardine or shrimp, available locally in the market.
Fishing on the beach
It involves a lot of effort, often thwarted by sea waves. Fishing in the serene beaches is always preferred as it enhances the enjoyment. You may get Rockfish, Stingray and Guitarfish.
Fishing on the boat
Many boats are also available on hire for sea fishing. It may cost some around ten pounds for three hours. Boat fishing is divided into two types Bottom fishing and trolling. If you choose bottom fishing, you may come across the rocky outcrops along the shore.
Rs 500 per hour (approx)
Patience in plenty
Keep all the emergency procedures in mind while going for sea fishing.
